PROJECT:
Phase 1 of this project began with the client's young daughter, who at nearly 2 was ready for a big girl bed and room to match. Her space needed to work for a toddler, but be flexible enough to grow with her through childhood, with different zones, for sleeping, playing, and studying. The adjacent entry and home office get their own upgrades to accommodate to optimize storage, organization, and overall aesthetics.
We also needed to provide enough space for the whole family to camp out for several months during the phase 2 construction of the primary bedroom, bathroom, and den/guest room.
PRINCIPLES:
We begin every project with a set of principles that come from our client's own words:
-
Strategic storage solutions
-
Follow the feng shui
-
Create a cozy castle in the clouds
-
Enhance your calm John Spartan
The key moves here are: replacing the twin bunk bed with a king size play loft (our castle in the clouds), replacing the double bed with a trundle bed, adding full length drapery to highlight the high ceilings, adding pendants & wall sconces for soft ambient lighting, using rugs over the existing carpet to delineate different zones, adding interest with subtle wallpapers & complimentary paint colors, and adding lots of shelving and flexible storage.
